Kirby and Nepotism
When Mr.Kirby told Ben Lehew to hire his nephew, he must have known that he was going against O.S.§. 21 16 481-483. I do not buy into the concept that Mr. Kirby did not know he was breaking an Oklahoma law. Everyone knows that Mr. Kirby was a state legislature. During his time as a legislature he voted on supplements to this Oklahoma statute. Two possibilities, when he said he did not break the law; 1). He is confused and does not know what he was voting on. If this is the case then, how can he hold a public office? or 2). He knew what he was doing and he thought he was above the law. If this is the case then he should be punished according to the Oklahoma statutes. The punishment for braking this law can be found under O.S.§. 21 16 485-486.
Any way you look at it, Mr. Kirby is not fit to hold any public office.
I would like to know how the other County commissioner feel about this or where they involved with Mr. Kirby of hiring his sex offender nephew.

The main reason most people are not talking about an elections is because of this county is a strong hold for the Democratice Party, at least at the local level.

911 merger
A merger will occur...but, my biggest gripe on it all is with city council members running the board.... there is no way any of those folks know one miniscule iota of info about the operational needs of an emergency communications system. If you note,there is no mention what so ever of rural fire, law enforecment or medical people to be on the board. Nor is there any mention of the County Sheriff. Sure seems funny there.... have to ask why?.. I know Pope sure tried to dump Kenny... but never did happen to include even no one who could run against Kenny....if he is so bad whats the deal?... or perhaps he is too honest and the crooks want him out....
Lawtons claim to fame is that they pay the most property taxes etc and that means they should have total control...the majority of the property taxes goes to the schools,not to county government.. hey folks.. why do you think we have laws to run the country,state,county and cities?... Money is not the criteria for good governement except here in lawton and other parts of Oklahoma.
Yes Lawton may be the largest population center,but when any person leaves the city limits they come under the rural folks for emergency services.The county is one heck of a lot bigger area than what the city of Lawton covers.And Lawton does not pay one single cent to the rural areas for emergency support. Who do you think makes the emergency runs for the Lawton folks who fall off the sides of the Wichita Mountians,or the Lawton folks who want a close up picture of a long horn momma with calf....who get stomped or gored...... or the Lawton folks who run off the roads in their cars,trucks and motorcycles? Sure hasnt been the city of Lawton emergency services running out to the rural areas,and sure isnt Lawton taxes paying for it. Just the rural folks digging into their own pockets to help pay for all the eqipment and the volunteers begging for grants etc is all.
And now in todays paper here is a guy who has demonstrated an acute ability to drop bottles off rooftops and claim he is an astute manager of county funds. He claims there is no way that the city of Lawton would be raising rates for a 911 system ever for the rural folks. Geez, does he know how to read? Or perhaps the rates he pays the city each month have never been raised since he is such a great buisness leader.But I know all the rural folks who have their water coming from Lawtons water Board sure did see a nice rate increase a while back. I know my bill for last month is 292 dollars and many others out here with Rural water services are all well over 200 bucks..and that is just for water, as sewage and garbage are totally seprate services..but now Lawton will never raise rates he says.
When Lawton raised the water fees for the rural people there were comments made by city council folk saying "if they want to live outside the city limits,let them pay for our water".... so.... now what do you think will be the statements made at a later point in time for a city run 911 system?Considering it will be the same folks from the water board on this merged 911 board.
Look at how Lawton balanced its budget for this year. They came up with what they wanted to spend etc and then said ok,now we raise these rates so we have the money and now its a balanced budget. It is just a simple demonstration of political power and corruption at work is all.Wonder if any of them have been to economics 101 as we the common folk have done in learning how to budget our funds?........chuck
