Mon, 2006-11-27 20:36 This quote was taken from a downtown thread, so I am using it in that context, but if you were mentioning the city-wide infrastructure improvements, then correct me... Quote from: Keith Jackson on 11/27/06, 20:47 The infrastucture problem is being studied by some of the best minds in Lawton...It will be dealt with somehow...the recomendation has to be in the Councils hands by Jan 10. I'm the Council Rep on this committee so I will keep you informed as best I can. So, Keith, just what exactly are we talking about? Typically infrastructure could be considered anything that TIF money might go towards, and I am under the impression something like that will be in place. Are we talking about sewage (though I believe that is being upgraded extensively) and pot holes, or are we talking about a whole nuther ball game, such as landscaping and new street signs? Define infrastructure. Of course downtown will need a lot of infrastructure improvements, as will the rest of Lawton. I really think that when you look at the needs of Lawton, and prioritize, a lot really needs to be done by 2009, obviously. Roads will need to be upgraded, which is happening well enough as it is, schools will need to be able to accommodate the increase, and there should be a westside police station and a fire station out on far West Lee Blvd in SW Lawton, to accommodate a lot of new growth... It would nice to see all of these improvements be well-done, and not hastily made. Medians in Lawton arterials were a great idea because now we're finally getting around to landscaping those. Lawton needs a lot more landscaping, for sure, and street improvements can kill two birds with a single stone (traffic and flat-out ugliness). But when we talk about downtown, I think what needs to be done to that infrastructure, which is just as important, would be sidewalk improvements, re-working the traffic lights in downtown so that you don't stop at each one, and some new street signs might also make the district look nice. This is what I feel is infrastructure-related,
