Develpmentby DeputyThis is a post not by me, but rather another concerned citizen. Please Visit the OkMet website. The Deputy Develpment - First off, Happy New Year everyone! I just emailed the following to my councilman Mr. Stanley Haywood and am eagerly awaiting his response. However, to get things moving on this forum I'll post it here also. What do you all think? Am I way off base here?Mr. HaywoodMy name is (keep you guessing). I am a registered voter at (somewhere within Ward 7), Lawton, OK 73505.I have several concerns about commercial development access around our city. Are there any requirements in place for either the city or developer to create left turn access into new commercial developments? If not, why not and can the city start making this a requirement? My questions stem mainly from the new "Olive Garden/Big 5" complex located on Cache Rd. I have noticed that there is not a dedicated left turn lane for traffic eastbound on Cache Rd that wish to enter the development. However, there is a median "cut-out" and a left turn lane for westbound traffic to enter the Home Depot/Denny's/Hong Kong Buffet area. Last night for instance, I was westbound, turning into the Home Depot complex while at the same time 2 eastbound cars were attempting to turn left into the Olive Garden. This in turn began to back up traffic on Cache Road and will eventually lead to multiple accidents and congestion. And Olive Garden isn't even open yet. When they do, this traffic situation will get out of hand. Why did the City allow this to happen? There should have either been a requirement placed on the developer to create a left turn access lane or the City should have built the left turn access lane. There are other areas around town where this is also a problem. The new complex being built just east of 38th St on Cache Rd has no left turn access for eastbound drivers. Drivers on South Sheridan do not have a dedicated left turn lane for either Staples or the road just north of Bank of America. Proper traffic planning and growth require this type of foresight or congestion will be completely out of hand in my opinion. Please take a look into this situation or direct me to the proper authorities.Thank You.
