It seems that our county commissioners and the City of Lawton cannot come to terms on what is going to happen with E-911. It should be very simple. The City of Lawton is the main tax base for the entire county. To save the most money nearly $300k it only seems right to keep the E-911 located at the City Hall annex. Is this a power struggle between certain people? I say Yes. Is this a game over peoples lives? I say yes.
It is time that the people who are elected in the County and City grow up and act like adults rather than play these games to see who can have the most power.
Perhaps if the Federal government should come into Lawton and take over, something could be done. It is not like the Feds haven't done that to other cities. I think that there should be an audit of the City and County to see where all the money is going!
The Deputy
E-911
I am once again starting the E-911 merger meetings, right now with the City of Lawton people, but quickly I will invite all the necessary players. At the last City Council meeting the Council asked that we make another attempt to get this done.
Once again, the taxpayers of Lawton need to become more involved with there County Commissioner to let them know how they feel.
I'll try to keep everyone as updated as I can about the progress....
E-911
We had an internal meeting with City of Lawton officials to make plans to move forward with E-911 situation with the County Govt. Next step is to meet with some site location people...more later
Perhaps Mr. Jackson would
Perhaps Mr. Jackson would like to give an itemized detail of what the cost estimate was on the City's behalf to move their operations to the county? Would Mr. Jackson reveal to the viewers of this site that part of that huge cost was to purchase NEW software and equipment for mapping, etc similar to what the county has already? Perhaps one should ask the question to Derrell Morgan.
One might also ask the validity of the 911 "Emergency" calls they boast about. That figure is inflated to even include calls from officers who just want to say "I'm going to get something to eat at Taco Bell....want anything?"
One might also be interested to hear that the City's dispatch center is not as safe as they claim - despite the claims the City makes about the COUNTY's center being unsafe. Imagine this....a metal roofed building on the back of a loading dock. They could not run tag information and other needed intel at the City one day because their equipment was covered with plastic. Why? The roof was leaking.
Oh...by the way. If you know where that little loading dock is...why not walk right in the back door and waltz right into the dispatch center.... yep...it is that unsecure.
Lets get facts right.
911 Dispatch...
I think it is all politics again... Instead of our elected officials doing what is best for the voters and citizens of Comanche County they do, what they think, is best for them.
There is no way the current city 911 center is more secure than the basement of the Comanche County court house. How the city officals can argue that point is beyond me. Above ground with outside walls or below ground with no outside walls... which one would a tornado blow away first? Granted the basement of the court house in not totally underground but it is more protected than the city's 911 dispatch center.
It appears that none of our city elected officals, and most of the county elected officials are playing politics and not being strong stewards of the taxpayers.
I Agree!!!
I completely agree with "ROBERTH" on this. moving 911 to an above ground building would be asking for trouble! At least right now 911 is in a underground room in a very stoutly built building. If we want to move 911 to an above ground building, then lets place it inside Wal-Mart. 911 should never be moved to an above ground location even if it was temporary.
!!!Let's move tot the City Site while the new building is being built, then build the back-up at the old location in the courthouse, then move to the new location??!!!
Sounds crazy! We need to build the backup and then wait for the new building to be built to move into it, UNDERGROUND!!!!!
