The City of Lawton needs millions of dollars of street and roads reconstruction within the city limits, are streets have dilapidated terribly.
The present budget does not have enough money in it to even make a dent in the problem.
Thoughts are to increase the utility bills, ask for a 1/4 cent sales tax increase, or ask a property tax referendum, all dedicated to just streets and roads. I thought this would make for valuable discussion.
Let me know what you think.[/quote]

Mr. Jackson,
If you say we need millions to fix the streets, and I agree we do. Then why is the City spending millions of dollars fixing up the Old Jr. High at a cost of more than 3 million dollars? Prehaps instead of putting the money into that project the City could have put its money into its employees and done maintance that could have slowed the degradation of the streets.

Why does the City continue to follow the practice of giving everything to the Police and Fire Unions and not help out the general employees, who do much to save the City Money?

As a taxpayer, I do not mind contributing to a sales tax, a property tax, or paying my water bill, but when I see the City spend money on such things as the Old Jr. High that was said to be unsafe to hold students for many reason, and the close of public, tax payed for, streets to put up a private Ice skateing rink, I do think that is irresponsible of the City governement to ask for more money.
