The taxpayers of Comanche County, of which 85% live within the City limits of Lawton, need a Commissioner that answers to the majority of the hard working taxpayers and not be commanded by a handful of County "aginers".
I don't think the of citizens of Lawton understand the importance of their vote for the county offices. I think that they think that their vote is not needed since they live within the city limits. HOW WRONG THEY ARE!!!
I would like to see someone with some business sense, someone that realizes that 80 to 85 per cent of the population lives within the city limits, and someone that will not be a politician, but someone that will do what is right for all of the taxpayers of Comanche County.
I can't vote for the Western Commissioner because I live within the Central District. But I would certainly be willing to help elect someone with the attitude that all citizens of Comanche County need to be represented.
On another subject, I would also like to see ALL elections for office that can not make or change laws be non-partisan races. All of the county elected officals can only follow the law that is created by the legislators. They can not create or amend the laws that govern the state or the counties... therefore the person elected should be the most qualified and not be elected because he or she is a democrat or a republican.
I can only remember one person in my 26 years in Lawton that a county office was won by a republican... and to be honest, I know that person is a republican today, but he might have been a democrat when he was county commissioner.
Ther was a bill introduced last year in the legislature to do just that but it never made it out of committee... thanks to partisan politics!
Back when Inola Ash was treasurer she told one the county commissoners that when she retired that she was going to appoint Cindy Jackson and that when Cindy Jackson was goin to retire (I wish!!!) that she was going to appoint her successor.
By doing that we never get new ideas and possibly better qualifed people in the offices. It is the same old same old...
I must give Ron Kirby a hand for at least trying to do that with the county assessors office but in the end they gave the position to the recommended appointee by Robert McAdoo (who should have been voted out years ago)
The comissioners should wake up and smell the roses and do what is right for the people of Lawton and Comanche County that elected them and not rubber stamp the suggested appointments.
