I have now had three experiences now where the county’s beloved Sheriff’s Deputies have not issued tickets for blatant disregard for the law. The latest one was yesterday; our Fire Dept was paged out for a possible structure fire because the fire was so close to the house. We arrived and found that the couple had set a large pile of trash on fire and left. A county deputy arrived on the scene at the same time as me. As we were putting the fire out and trying to locate the owner, I was told something that just shocked me. The deputy told me that they will not give out tickets for violating the Burn Ban. I asked him why, and his reply was that the DA’s office will not prosecute the tickets. Now… the message we are giving the public is what??? If the county will not give out the tickets then why do we fight the fires? Oh yea, that’s right, IT’S OUR JOB!! So to the Sheriff, DO YOUR JOB & WRITE THE TICKETS!!!!
Kinda funny
Kinda funny that the Sheriff can't even give me numbers on how many tickets his deputies have written. Kinda makes me believe that "FireChief" has a serious issue that may need to be looked at. I mean why have a ban on burning if the law enforsment won't even give out fines.. Another thing is that fines and tickets are a source of revenue...

Votes Votes Votes!!!
Kenny will not let his deputies give out tickets because he does not want to lose votes.
When he was whining for money and he was given the opportunity for over $200,000.00 in grant money he turned it down. Why? Becuase he would be required to make contact with motorist and report on it. He would not have to write a ticket. He would not even have to write a warning ticket. He would just have to stop cars periodically, make a contact and report the incident. The stop would even be an 'atta boy' for good driving. He wouldn't take the money becuase the stops might cost him votes!
Selective Law Enforcement
Last time I checked, it was the sheriff’s JOB to enforce the law, ALL LAWS! Not to pick and choose which ones to enforce and which ones to ignore.. At lease LPD can catch people in high speed chases, unlike the county. Oh wait, that would mean they would have to give a ticket, oh never mind……

Selective Law Enforcement
From personal experience, the county is able to end a high speed chase. Statistics, if any were available, would show that more chases occur in the city of Lawton than they do it the county. Hence, the city of Lawton would stop more chases.
I know of several individuals that have received tickets for numerous violations of the law from our "beloved" county sheriff deputies. If you are so concerned about the number of tickets being written or not written, then maybe you should apply for a job as a deputy sheriff. On most days and evenings/nights the county has maybe, if they are lucky, four or less deputies on duty to patrol the entire county. The city of Lawton has atleast two dozen. I live in the city of Geronimo and I see dozens of people run the stop signs, fly down the streets, etc. and the city of Geronimo cars are no where to be seen. Probably because they are in Lawton eating at the IHOP. Rarely do the local police ever stop anyone. They just drive around town and back and forth to Lawton. Selective ticket writing and traffic stops is not solely to be put on the shoulders of the understaffed and underpaid sheriff's department.
